Mary D. Moller DNP, MSN, ARNP, BC, CPRP is an advanced registered nurse practitioner dually certified as a clinical specialist in adult psychiatric-mental health nursing and as a psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner. She received her BSN from Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD in 1971, her MSN in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing in 1982, and the Doctor of Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH in 2006. She received the Dean's Legacy Award for her research entitled "The Lived Experience of Persons With Schizophrenia in the Postpsychotic Adjustment Phase of Recovery from Psychosis". She is Clinical Director of The Suncrest Wellness Center (SWC), an independent nurse-managed outpatient psychiatric clinic located at 9103 N. Division St, Spokane, WA  99218.

Mary is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Nursing for Kansas University Medical Center School of Nursing where she developed and is teaching their first online psychopharmacology course for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Graduate Students. She is also Adjunct Faculty at Washington State University College of Nursing in Spokane where she serves as a practicum supervisor for graduate psychiatric nurse practitioner students at Suncrest Wellness Center. 

Mary is also President of NurSeminars, Inc., a speaking and consultation firm that provides workshops and seminars on a variety of health care topics related to psychiatry.

    Mary is also President of Psychiatric Resource Network, Inc. which provides research, development and training in all aspects of The Three R's Treatment Program: Relapse, Recovery, and Rehabilitation...A Wellness Approach for Psychiatric Rehabilitation.

    The Three R's Program was co-developed in 1993 with Dr. Millene F. Murphy, Ph.D., APRN, RPRP. Together they researched and developed the:

  • Moller-Murphy Symptom Management Assessment Tool MM-SMAT II)
  • the 12-week educational course "Recovering from Psychosis: A Wellness Approach
  • the 9-module workbook "My Symptom Management Workbook: A Wellness Expedition, and
  • the 12-week educational course "Be Smart" which is an acronym that stands for Become Empowered: Symptom Management for Abuse and Recovery from Trauma. Most recently, Mary and her colleague, Dr. Michael J. Rice have researched and developed Trauma Reframing Therapy: Application of Counterintuitive Cognitive Processes to the attainment of self-directed wholeness.

    Mary has been honored by many local, state, national and international organizations for her work and contributions toward advancing mental health care for patients and their family members as well as for her efforts in promoting the practice of psychiatric nursing at both basic and advanced levels.

  • In 1987 she was named to a 5 year term on the board of directors of the Nebraska Advocacy Services.
  • She was named the 1988 Woman of the Year of the Business and Professional Women's Association of Fremont, NE.
  • In both 1988 and 1991 she was nominated for the Woman of Distinction Award by the Omaha YWCA.
  • In 1991 she received The Dorothy Kent Distinguished Lectureship, at Vanderbilt University.
  • In 1992 she was a presenter at the 2nd International Conference on Schizophrenia in Vancouver, BC and also at the Hospital and Community Psychiatry International Institute in Toronto.
  • In 1994 she received the Award for Clinical Excellence from the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.
  • Also in 1994 The Three R's Program was selected as a model training program by the Center for Mental Health Services of SAMHSA (The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health).
  • In 1995 she chaired the Global Schizophrenia Forum in London, England.
  • In 1996 she was named Professional of the year by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
  • In June 1999 she was a consultant with the Israeli Ministry of Health in Tel Aviv.
  • In August 1999 she led a delegation of psychiatric nurses to the People's Republic of China for the People to People Ambassador Program.
  • In 2000 she led a delegation of health care professionals to study the integration of spirituality in health care in Israel for the People to People Ambassador Program.
  • In 2001 she led another delegation of psychiatric nurses to Cuba for the People to People Ambassador Program.
  • She received the 2001 Leadership and Management Award from the Washington State Nurses Association.
  • She was nominated for the 2001 Distinguished Alumna Recipient from Mt. Marty College in Yankton, SD.
  • In 2002 she was the featured alumni in the spring quarterly newsmagazine of Mt. Marty College.
  • In June 2003 she keynoted the Canadian Schizophrenia Society Annual Meeting in Toronto, ON
  • In 2004 she was lead faculty for the National Psychiatric Nursing Forum sponsored by Bristol Myers Squibb in Salt Lake City, UT
  • In 2005 she was lead faculty for the National Psychiatric Nursing Forum sponsored by Bristol Myers Squibb in Fort Lauderdale, FL
  • In December 2005 she was an Invited Panel Member for the groundbreaking  APNA/ANCC Logical Job Analysis for the Advanced Practice Psych-Mental Health Nurse
  • She received a $500 scholarship for Graduate Research from Sigma Theta Tau, Delta Chi Chapter.
  • In May 2006 she received the Award for Clinical Excellence from the Association of Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurses, WA State
  • In May 2006 she received the Dean's Legacy Award, Doctor of Nursing Practice Program, Case Western Reserve University
  • In Febr 2008 she delivered the Keynote Address for the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses Inaugural Conference  on Private Practice-Canberra, Australia as well as presenting her research in Melbourne
  • In Nov 2008 she will be inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing
     
  • Mary has also keynoted conferences for the Menninger Foundation, The Mayo Clinic, USC, UCLA, The Ohio State University, the Medical College of Pennsylvania, the University of Texas, the University of Louisville, the Royal Ottawa Hospital in Ottawa, Canada, the Association of Assertive Community Treatment Programs, American Association of Ambulatory Health Care, Therapeutic Activities and Psychiatric Rehabilitation, University of Louisville Annual Psychiatric Nursing Update, Michigan State Nurses Association Psychiatric Mental Health Practice Section, and 36 state chapters of The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She was annually recognized in Who's Who of American Nursing from 1988 to 1998. She has been recognized in Who's Who in America annually since 1998.

    She has made over 850 professional and research presentations in 47 States, Canada, London, Copenhagen, Havana, Beijing, Hong Kong, Tel Aviv, Canberra, and Melbourne since 1980.

    Mary has served on a federal task force related to the role of family as caregiver for individuals with serious mental illness as well as consultant to managed care regarding the advanced practice of psychiatric nursing. She served as a consultant to the graduate psychiatric nursing program at the University of California at San Francisco.

    She is also a consultant to the Israeli Ministry of Health Division of Psychiatric Nursing and has conducted three trainings on psychiatric wellness and trauma recovery in Israel.

    She has authored over 47 articles and book chapters in both national and international journals and leading psychiatric nursing testbooks. She is on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.  For 10 years she was on the editorial board of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Journal.

    She is active at the local, state, and national levels of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association serving as the Charter President of the Washington State Chapter. She was the Washington State Representative to the 1st Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nursing Congress in 1996. She has served three years as the National Chair of Advanced Practice. She is also an active member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, the International Society of Psychiatric Nursing, and the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill where she currently serves as Chair of the Curriculum, Training, and Practice Consortium.

    Mary is an active member of the Messianic Israel Alliance. She has consulted for the Greater Spokane Association of Evangelicals. She presented at the 2003 International Police Chaplains Conference in Spokane, WA as well as for the local and state meetings of the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing organization. She has presented at The Spokane College Women Association. Mary serves on the Board of Directors of SEER (Supported Education to Enhance Rehabilitation) in Spokane and the BOD of Fantasy Flight, a charitable program for homeless children sponsored by United Airlines. She is also a member of PEO Chapter EQ in Spokane.
